It’s been another weird winter. Almost all the snow we have now came in December, and since then we’ve had some warm periods with snowmelt. And now it’s really cold again, it was -20 degrees this morning. But the sun is warm, so even if the winter is trying to stage a comeback, it is losing the battle.
But with these conditions, the landscape is not very pretty. It hasn’t been very pretty in a very long time, which has a very direct relation to the number of pictures I’m taking. I’m starting to wonder why I ever bought a new camera when I don’t use it… but when everything else fails, go to the zoo. As usual. I also got to meet one of my blog readers (I just had to say it, it sounds much better than ”the other one of the two readers”), always nice to put a face to a name!

I had hoped to see a lot of action in the upper wolf enclosure but we found that they had removed the big flock and now there’s only a pair of wolves in there. We’ll see if their number will increase in the summer but apparently those two don’t get along very well.

Things we looking much better at the wolverine enclosure. The male was in a very playful mood but incredibly difficult to shoot (moving too fast, too close, too far, too much contrast, too little light, facing away from me… you name it). Finally just before feeding time it actually stopped for a couple of seconds so I got a closeup, you can see the snow crystals in the fur after it had been rolling around. The snow itself wasn’t very pretty because of the weather in the past few weeks but I liked the blue shadows in the distance shot.
So once again, you never need to come out of the zoo with nothing to show for it!
