It was really beautiful in the mountains today. The wind had quieted down and the forest was covered in snow, I hated it that I had to go back home. I made a short skiing trip to get a few landscape shots, my left foot not allowing me to go very far. And anyway, I was keen on trying the new Tamron lens so it was just as well.

It was still snowing a little bit so there wasn’t a lot of light to work with, I went up to ISO 1600 which makes it a bit difficult to be super-critical about sharpness but I must say that the results look very promising. I was working from quite a long distance (long, even for 600mm) because the snow was too deep to get closer to the feeder from the best angle. But with these beautiful snow covered trees, it worked out quite nicely anyway. So the first impression I have of this lens, is that I’m actually quite impressed! Really looking forward to a visit in the zoo next weekend.

I felt awful about driving back home. The winter was showing its best side in the mountains, and when I got home it was raining. And along the way, the road conditions were really bad and I made the big mistake of taking a shortcut home (the small road from Laforsen to Föne instead of keeping on 84). The road was literally melting under my car and there were some spots I was sure that the car would get stuck when the wheels just couldn’t get any hold in the slushy snow. Mental note, stay off the small roads unless they’re frozen or free of snow!
