We got another boat ride! It was a last minute arrangement since we had a day to spare, and so we got to go to a fishing village (Oqaatsut, or Rodebay) some way north from Ilulissat. I did take some iceberg pictures on the way, but it wasn’t so nice to be on the deck because the temperatures were still on the freezing side and the boat was going quite fast, since this was only transport. When we got to the village, the sun started to break out and it really is a warm sun. The dogs were panting… those poor things must really suffer in the summertime.
The village was interesting. The only way to get there is by boat (and snowmobile or dog sledge in the winter) so it’s isolated, but they do have a church and a school (I heard they had four pupils in different grades) and apparently, even a small library. And plenty of sledge dogs. A charming place, much more interesting than Ilulissat, worth spending some time in. And.. there is actually even a hotel in this small place! Apparently there for aurora watchers, because there’s no light pollution.
The evening (and night) was very nice, but just at midnight the sun went behind those extremely annoying clouds low in the horizon.
And that was it! Tomorrow we’re off to Copenhagen, I will stay the night there and come home on Saturday evening.
