It could be that I just have a strange definition of cool, but I think it’s cool that I can stand on my porch and look at Orion and Sirius! Early in the winter, Sirius wouldn’t be visible until around midnight but now at this time of the year they are so high up in the sky that I can see them as soon as it gets dark, which is pretty good considering that they have to be high enough to reach above the Vallåsen mountain. Catch them while you can… around midnight, both Sirius and Orion have set already. And one month from now, they’re not above horizon during the dark hours at all. Which is not to say much, because only one month from now the nights will be so short that the next opportunity to do any stargazing will be in the autumn!
