Road to nowhere

Hanging snow

As I was saying, I’m currently exploring the snowmobile trails to see where they take me. I checked out if any snowmobiles had been down to Mon yet, and I found that they haven’t… but, a snowplow had been. It was all very strange, the small road leading down to the fields had been plowed so properly that grass and sand were showing in places. So it was not a preparation for skiing tracks or a snowmobile trail, all the while it wasn’t prepared for cars either because the plow had stopped plowing a couple of meters shy of the bigger road making it impassable for cars. It got even more strange when I got down to the fields and found that they had not followed the Ljusnanleden trail which is the way to get to the flood plains. By then I was really curious and followed the plowed way and figured that it must be some kind of a trail in the summer time as well, it’s just that I never realised it was there all those times I’ve been down to Mon. And then just as unexpectedly as the plowed road started, it also stopped. It had taken me to a spot where the trail goes up on the big embankment and luckily I saw that somebody had already walked that way, so I didn’t have to go through deep snow or turn back like the plow had done. But still, I find it all very strange. I just can’t figure out what the purpose was, why would anyone go through the trouble? All the same, it was nice to follow it. Whoever did it, thank you!

I followed a proper snowmobile trail after that for a few kilometres. I couldn’t find anything interesting though, the problem seems to be the same everywhere around here (except for Mon) – lots of forest, no mires. The mires in Loos almost always provided something photogenic, but the forests in Föne are manicured, pedicured and well maintained. Mostly pine, some spruce, a little bit of birch if you’re lucky. Terribly boring I’m afraid. I read in a newsletter that they are doing a dog sled and skiing trail through the Hamra National Park so I guess that’s where I need to go to find anything new. That, or the cabin. Mountains are never bad!
