Reverse flow

It’s been snowing all day, which is needed because the warm weather and storm winds really took heavy on the snow cover we had. We still need a lot more snow to cover up all the debris that the storm left on the ground, I saw sticks and broken off branches sticking out everywhere in the forest, it looks really messy. Surprisingly little damage though, saw one barn roof blown off and then one spot where a particularly bad gust had felled a few trees.

I went down to Forsänget to see the river but there’s not much to see right now. It’s almost entirely covered with ice, only the busiest whitewater was still open. But what really got me doubting my eyes was when I saw that the outlet where the water from Mon runs into the river is now an inlet instead – the water from Ljusnan is flowing into Mon and quite fast at that. Mon is not flooded as yet, but considering the strenght of the flow it will probably not take very long before the water is at the level that got me falling through the ice last winter. Obviously this depends on the water level in Ljusnan but it seems like the flooding happens every year so I expect that the river will keep growing.

Compare the last two pictures – first one is from 25 December last year and the water (ice+snow) reaches up to the trees. Second is from today and you can still see the embankments.

Will be interesting to see how this develops. New visit next week!
