There’s a nice lake a few km east from Föne, the lake is called Ranungen and small collection of houses around the lake have the same name. Most the houses are summer cabins but there’s a few permanent inhabitants. You can walk around the lake, the road doesn’t go all around but it’s only a 100m or so through the forest so you can do it on foot (and I often do it by bike in the summer). From Föne on foot and then around the lake, it’s a nice 14 km trip… very pleasant in the summer, and quite interesting in a January like this.

This awful weather we’ve been having has left all the smaller roads covered with ice, which in combination with a rainy day makes the roads downright dangerous. It almost feels stupid to be walking in these conditions, but on the other hand, it sure beats sitting indoors!

The main reason I went to Ranungen was to check out this brook. I was expecting to see it covered with ice, considering that all the lakes are frozen and even the river is lined with ice, despite the warm period. But to my surprise, I found the brook completely free of ice so I did something which I’ve probably never before have done in January – shot a waterfall picture.
