I really like cycling and I enjoy all the small roads here in Föne. One problem though, I don’t like to carry a heavy backpack because, well, my butt doesn’t appreciate the extra weight on the saddle. So usually when I’m cycling, I just carry the camera and zoom lens and sometimes I only take the Powershot. But there are a lot of opportunities which require the use of a tripod so I decided to figure out a way to strap the tripod on the bike. I have a small package rack but it should be possible bind the tripod to it, and then I remembered the tripod case I had for my motorbike.

Perfect! It’s thick leather with a foam lining which will provide plenty of protection for the valuable cargo, which was the whole point of it. The case protrudes quite a lot behind the bike, but even if it looks unsteady it sits secure with just two straps (one keeps it from sliding backwards, the other keeps it from sliding sideways). As usual, the contraption doesn’t earn me any points for style but it works and it allows me to use the bike on the photographic excursions. I’m already planning to take the bike to the cabin and it will help me a lot on the approach stretches on flat ground before starting the hike up the mountain.

So now I’m happy. The bike is economical and ecological and it will help to keep me in shape (and allow me to eat my favourite cookies without feeling guilty about it!) and now I can use it for ”serious” photography as well, not just snapshots like before. Today I checked out a couple of brooks and got those long shutter speed pictures thanks to the tripod, transported on the bike.
