Midsummer freeze

It’s midsummer, it’s a three-day weekend and I’m back at the cabin. I had big plans for this weekend – my first ever solo backcountry overnight hike. I was so determined that I wasn’t going to let some cloudy skies or cool weather stop me, but what I had not counted on was a risk of snow – it’s that cold. So I had to cancel the overnight hike and settle for the usual short hikes, and I’ll be lucky to do those as well. Tonight it was windy and cold but just a little bit sunny at first, but by the time I was back at the cabin, I was feeling the chill and indeed it was only two degrees centigrade.

I went up towards Fiskhålsgraven but turned west after reaching the tundra, the idea was to use the small pools of water as a foreground and Blåstöten and Ånnfjället in the background. But the wind was so bad it was whipping even the small puddles, and there was no light on the distant fells, and one thing I had forgotten – the horizon slopes on Flatruet. So whatever you do, it’s almost impossible to avoid the impression that the picture is tilted, even when it’s perfectly level.
