I had some trouble falling asleep last night, this Iceland trip kept playing in my head. Inevitably while awake, I felt the nature calling and when I was going through the kitchen, I was wondering why the sky seemed so light. On with the glasses – and I was looking at just about the best aurora I have even seen (considering that I haven’t had that many aurora experiences yet)! I didn’t stop to think, just on with the warm clothes (it was -20°C) and out on the balcony with the camera. It seems like I had missed the best show though, as the light was already fading. And I messed up the first frames with the best light, because I accidentally knocked the focus ring while I was setting up the camera and forgot to double check focus in all the excitement. So the first frames are a little bit soft, but I have to keep them just to see the aurora the way it was.
I think there’s a good chance of aurora tonight as well, but those pesky clouds are getting in the way again. I have to build up a routine so I don’t miss any more aurora… every night before going to bed, look out the kitchen window!
