Best laid plans

I need to paint the cabin so the plan was to drive to Funäsdalen and get the paint and while there, use the Internet access to update the blog. And then in the afternoon take the toll road up to Svansjökläppen and hike to Vättafjället.

First problem. Can’t make the frekkin’ network to work. Using my telephone as a hotspot, no problem to get the computer to connect to the hotspot but there’s zero Internet access and I have no idea why. So I thought I’d connect the phone to Telia Homerun but the homerun WiFi signal was so weak it sometimes disappeared. So I doublechecked where the homerun network should be. At Coop Konsum, just as I thought. I was parked right outside it. So, a finger up to Telia and computer problems, I ain’t gonna deal with this on my vacation.

Having checked the news on my telephone, I drove to the hardware store. Closed on Sundays. I thought they had good opening hours but that’s only on all other weekdays except Sundays. Well that sucks.

Ok then, on to Tänndalen. On my way there I was reflecting on the amount of snow on the mountains and realised that the toll road might be blocked by snow. So I drove to Anderssjöåfallet and hiked up the waterfall because I knew I could get a view towards the toll road and check the situation. I found that indeed the snow was blocking the way, but only to the top parking lot. The overflow parking lot was available and I saw cars there so that wouldn’t be a problem. But all that snow on Vättafjället might be… so screw that.

Something anyway

Since it didn’t really matter where I was going as long as I was going somewhere, I took the trail towards Bruksvallarna from the waterfall because I’ve never done it before. And I never will do again. It just goes through birch forest, there’s a lot of lakes and the views might be ok in some other weather but it was overcast today, just like yesterday. Not much wind, but enough to break the reflection. I had almost settled with the fact that I might not get any pictures today when I saw this interesting birch stump. Yey.

When I was back at the waterfall, the sun came out. Brilliant. I drove back to the cabin.

No matter which way I try to think about it, I can only come to the conclusion that the most useful thing I can do in the next few days is to paint the cabin (provided that the hardware store has the paint I need – wouldn’t that just be typical?). There’s too much snow on the mountains so I don’t want to climb up to any. I’m not afraid of the snow but it just means that there will be nothing growing up there. It’s like April in the lowlands. And the melting snow means that there’s a lot of water in the waterfalls. Too much for the kind of waterfall pictures I like. And then there’s the overcast weather. So I might as well make use of the conditions, at least this cold weather means that the mosquitoes are not out in any great numbers. Perfect for painting the cabin…. if I can find the paint. And a ladder.
