It was going to be one of those rare non-overcast days so I had planned a big hike. I drove to Torkilstöten in Ljungdalen and the idea was that I would hike to Norra (North) Gröndörrstöten and energy allowing, Södra (South) Gröndörrstöten as well. The weather was really dull with no sign of that sun that was supposed to come out, until I was actually standing on the peak of the mountain. So I finally had a reason to take the camera out of the pack and shot a few frames and then looked at the second mountain across the valley. But here’s the thing. When you go to Norra Gröndörrstöten from Torkilstöten, first you go up a mountain, then you go down a mountain, go up again, go down, and up, and a bit more up. In order to get to the southern mountain, I’d have to go way down, and then up. And then repeat the whole thing on the way back. So I figured that I’d save Södra Gröndörrstöten for another time, you can take a different route from the east and avoid these multiple ups and downs.

On the way in, I had found a nice spot with a lot of small pools of water, which I would have missed if I had taken a straight route but as it was, I had veered off course a little bit. The sun insisted on hiding again though and with the stiff wind, even these small pools had rippled water. But I figured as long as I had the light, I could do something, so I sat down to eat my second sandwich and drink the rest of my coffee. But still no sun, so I continued my trek. When I was closing in on Torkilstöten, the sun finally came out and there was quite a bit of blue sky as well. Such a great way to finish a good hike, I didn’t even mind the wind. And I was astonished to find that I wasn’t tired after this hike, when has that ever happened? I think I should pack two sandwiches with me on every hike, the whole experience is much better when you’re not starving for energy at the end of it!
