Saw my first migratory bird of the year yesterday, a goldeneye in Skarpå. And this morning a swan family flew over me. I wish I had kept track of migratory birds so I can compare if this is early or not… but next year I’ll know better!
My calendar says March, but the thermometer claims April. Winter was in the range of ”blink and you’ll miss it”…I went for a walk, thought I would check out the scenery from the Eagle Mountain lookout. When I got there, I found the place occupied by two snowmobiles, so I continued without stopping. I guess…
I have been planning to do skiing trips to the mountains all winter, but it just hasn’t come off until now. The weather forecast wasn’t the best possible, but I wasn’t going to let even that depress me. I can deal with overcast skies but not with warm temperatures, so it was now or never!…
We managed the whole month without any degrees above freezing. It finally feels like a winter, so all the more regrettable that it very nearly rained today. It’s the beginning of the end for winter 2006/2007. The February weather data isn’t complete – I was away for a weekend, so two days’ observations are missing.…
Some may call it a dull grey day, I call it Winter. A few degrees below, overcast, snow in the air and fresh snow on the ground. On with the skis, and out in the forest. I skiied about 17 km, which is probably the longest I’ve ever done (yeah fine it’s not much, but…
I’m always looking for interesting snow formations to shoot. When the land is covered with snow, you’d expect it to be an easy task. Well it isn’t. Especially on a weekend like this, when the wind is blowing and the temperature rises dangerously close to zero. The pristine snowcover is ruined by snow falling down…
Or Skiing, Shopping and Sightseeing Some weekend. I had two days off because my family (my parents, sis and her two kids) came to Sweden to celebrate my Dad’s 70th birthday. My mini-vacation started with a great day of skiing. New snow, suitably cold weather and sunshine – can winter get any better? Then I…
The weekends just seem to drag by. Some would say that we had good weather, but I was rather disheartened. Zero degrees centigrade, high winds and sunshine is not my idea of ideal conditions – for photography anyway. The scenery is downright depressing in fact. Ugly snow, that’s the problem. Rather optimistically, I took the…
Another weekend has passed by, low on photography but high on outdoor activities. I skiied a loop – one I had not done before – yesterday, with camera in backbag but never taken out. And having thus gotten sick of skiing, I chose to walk today. I had a closer look at a couple of…
As a child, the first star constellation I learned was the Big Dipper – I think if people know just one constellation here up north, then it’s the Big Dipper. After that, I learned Cassiopeia and then I was proud to find the Polar Star. I added more and more constellations to my casual astronomy…
