Went skiing today. I did Mittåkläppsspåret for the first time this winter, and I picked the right day for it – it was absolutely gorgeous. After a couple of km of skiing up the trail, the trees were covered in frost and/or snow (no snow on the trees down in the valley). With the sun…
We actually have a proper winter this time. Lots of snow, and plenty cold – I think last night was the coldest yet, -31°C. It didn’t exactly encourage me to go out, but I did anyway, had to put the car heater on. By the time I drove off around lunch, it was only -15°C.…
What a morning! I left well and early to catch the sunrise on Ånnfjället, but it wasn’t quite as straightforward as I had thought it would be. For starters, it was much colder than it was supposed to be, and for a brief moment I even considered cancelling. Skiing in -20°C is not entirely good…
I got my new snowshoes yesterday! MSR Evo Tour 22, which is a completely different model compared to my old TSL 217’s. I wanted a different shape of snowshoe because I’ve had some issues with the round form of the TSL’s, but the biggest improvement is with the straps. The rubber straps are so much…
I did not want to go skiing. Crazy, but that’s really how I felt in the morning. I had to spend a good while convincing myself that I will like it if I just put the skis on and hit the snow. And I guess I was right about that, because at one point while…
I think I need new snowshoes. My old snowshoes have served me well for 15 years, but they are showing their age. A plastic clip that holds the straps in place behind the foot is broken on both. Some metal parts are rusty. They are too heavy, compared to similar snowshoes that are available today.…
We did get winter today! It was touch and go with the temperature just around the zero mark.
It’s going to snow tomorrow. A lot. Unless it rains, of course. But I’m hoping for snow, which means that it’s winter for sure and that makes today the last chance to get any hiking done. So I went hiking. As to where I would do the hiking, it was an easy decision. Ånnfjället is…
A new track popped up on the map this year. They are now preparing the trail between Fjällnäs and Svalåtjärnen, previously it’s only been a back country trail but now it’s prepared, and of course I just had to ski it. The only question was, how I’m going to arrange it… use the ski bus…
The landscape is big and I’ve often marvelled at how little you see people up on the mountain when the parking lot at the trail head is full of cars. But then there are exceptions, of course. Like the Easter week, which is no doubt the busiest week up here when absolutely everyone who can,…
