Easter, Day 3

One of my big goals this winter was to ski the Mittåkläppen Nordic Ski track from Bruksvallarna. I’ve already done the short portion of it from Ramundberget, because even if it’s really steep at first, it’s not very long and can conveniently be combined with the Djupdalsvallen loop. But today I did it from Bruksvallarna, including the loop, and you know what? It wasn’t as hard as I had thought it would be! I really enjoyed it, actually. Well, apart from the fact that my skis were slipping a little and for some reason unknown to me, I didn’t stop until after 5km to apply more grip wax (it helped, until it wore off, so I applied some more, which helped, and by the time I was back in Bruksvallarna, I had no grip left so I used the skating technique instead of applying yet more grip wax). Oh and then there was this big hill going down, and I thought I didn’t need to apply any brakes until halfway down I realised that my new skis are twice as fast as the old hybrids and I really did need to brake or I would overshoot the next corner and I only barely stood on my feet during that maneuver. Yeah, that bit was not so enjoyable. Adrenalin rush, yes. I had trouble holding the camera steady afterwards. But other than those things, a great trip and I’m really glad I finally did it!

Stor-Mittåkläppen
It snowed heavily when I did the Djupdalsvallen loop. Stor-Mittåkläppen faintly visible in the background.
Djupdalsvallen
This is Djupdalsvallen, my favourite waffle place in the summer. And you just have to imagine Stor-Mittåkläppen in the background.
snowing
Did I mention that the wind is also picking up? It was snowing right into my lens.
