Ice age

I went on an STF (Svenska Turistföreningen) excursion today. Much of our landscape is shaped by the ice age, and you can see the evidence almost everywhere. So the geologist explained why the landscape looks like it does, and how the features were born. I found out for example that the ancient Baltic Sea reached all the way up here, and you can see the shoreline on the southern slopes of Vallåsen. A very educational trip, took almost the whole day and because the emphasis was on learning, there wasn’t very much photography. Not that there were a lot of opportunities, there’s not enough green for it yet. It worked as scouting though, there’s a couple of spots that I have to visit in the summer.

The picture is from an ice age waterfall. We were standing on a ridge covered with large blocks like this and the geologist said that when the ice was receding, there was a waterfall here that could have been up to 100 meters high. Mind boggles!
