Last night was clear, so I drove to Skalsjön to shoot some starry sky pictures. I’m trying to find a good spot for night sky photography and on the map it looked like Skalsjön would offer good views towards south-west where I find my beloved Orion. It turned out that the view was indeed good, but it was very windy so I couldn’t use any trees as compositional elements because they would be blurred. But the ice was enough free of snow to reflect Sirius and that was nice.

I must say I was almost a little shocked at how much air traffic there was. I had to ditch a whole lot of frames because of airplane streaks and I also did a lot of waiting when I saw the light move across the sky. There’s a small streak in the picture below as well, I think I can clone it out though.

There was also a clear view towards north, but nothing I could use as a foreground. The aurora wasn’t happening anyway (not at the moment I was out, in any case) so it was no big loss, but it does mean that I’m still hunting for a good aurora spot. I have an idea which I will chase tonight, weather permitting.
