Welcome to the 21st century – I now have Internet in the cabin! I got myself a modem from Net1 and it turns out that the signal is really good. I have a pay-by-day subscription so I only pay for the days I use the net, perfect for the occasional visits to the cabin.
One of my special ski bindings broke last weekend. The studs that hold the strap are being torn off, I already had the straps re-attached before Christmas but either they are using sub-standard studs or the whole binding is getting worn. But the point is, I can’t keep getting the straps reattached every other month, so now I need new skis. And I mean new skis, not just bindings – I want to try the customary binding system with proper ski boots. There’s gotta be a pair of ski boots somewhere that don’t chafe. With that in mind, I drove to Funäsdalen this morning and rented a ski set. I was really happy to find that I had no trouble whatsoever with the boots they gave me! So now I can go shopping, I know what kind of boots I should look for.

The skiing trip itself was nice (as always). I took the trail from Hållan to Andersborg, I’ve done it before so just to give it some variation, I took the shortcut from Malmbäckstugan to Andersborg. Normally I avoid the shortcut because it means going across the mountain, instead of around it… But it wasn’t as bad as it maybe looks. Weatherwise I got lucky, it was sunny at first but I saw that there was fog towards Andersborg. Sure enough, when I got closer it was a completely different landscape with frosty trees and mountains shrouded in clouds. Which also worked for me, no problems with that. There was almost no wind, and the temperature was above freezing, so I couldn’t really have asked for more.

Another thing I tried out today was my new F-Stop Loka backpack. It worked great, and I will post a full review next week.
And speaking of new things, I also finally used the stove-slash-fireplace in the cabin. I really like the heat it gives (I mean, not just the heat itself, but the kind of heat – they’re not all created equal y’know) and it does warm up the cabin fast. Or would do it if needed, because I had my neighbour turn on the radiators before I came.
All things considered, this has been a very nice day. I will finish off by watching Melodifestivalen on SVTPlay – now that I can!
