We had a surprise in store for us today! We were going to take a boat trip to a loch which is otherwise inaccessible, unless you’re prepared to hike through rough terrain (and a lot of mud). We drove to Elgol again but instead of going back to the hotel after the morning shoot, we had breakfast with us because the boat to Loch Coruisk leaves from Elgol.
So we did our morning shoot at Elgol, and this time the mountains in the background showed up and we even got a little bit of light on them. After that, we took the boat and got to see harbour seals and cormorants in the bay leading to Loch Coruisk.
Once there, we stopped to eat our breakfast. It turned out to be a bit funny… the whole food pack contained barely anything more than a normal lunch so we had to scrape together some leftovers. But the location means a lot and under normal circumstances it would have been a lousy breakfast, but when you’re sitting in the sun by a mirror calm lake surrounded by dramatic mountains and top it off with perfectly cooked eggs (on a gas stove!) and tasty coffee, it was one of the better breakfasts I’ve ever eaten!
It wasn’t perfectly sunny, there was a lot of thin clouds that diffused the light. But honestly, there’s no complaining here, and in a way the soft light complements the calm lake. It was a truly magical place, and definitely the highlight of this vacation.
Back in Elgol, we did an evening shoot at the cliffs. I was already so happy about the pictures I had taken today that I didn’t really care what I was doing now, so when I found a composition I liked, it was the icing on the cake of a perfect day!
