The Temple

It was windy all night. The hidden rock didn’t bother me and I was not freezing either (I was wearing one more layer than last night), but the tent was flapping in the wind and I could hear it through my ear plugs. So, another night with patchy sleep and another night where getting up at 5.30 was only a good thing. Unfortunately, no morning light to work with, so I took a few snaps with what little there was and then went to the station to wait for the breakfast serving to start (at 7).

The cloud cover only got worse during the early morning and all the peaks were shrouded. I hoped that the sky would clear later so took the Helags trail to get up on the eastern side of the Sylälven valley for panorama views towards the big peaks in the west. However… with those clouds, no view. I kept going south to go back to the nice Templet-view I saw on Saturday but the clouds just point blank refused to clear. And then I saw a fog bank approach quickly and it became even more hopeless, I started going back, just stopped to take a picture. But then, really only just a few seconds after taking the picture, the fog cleared – it was more like a whiff of low cloud that swept past, and behind it, the sky actually started to clear. But not on those high peaks. I waited maybe half an hour but when it didn’t improve, I walked back to the station to waste the afternoon again and hope that I would get evening light.

Evening light as such is a bit harder to shoot at Sylarna, because then all the big mountains will be back lit. The peaks in the east are as boring as it gets, I didn’t even try to find ways to shoot them. The best evening spot is Templet, because the sun will be far enough in the north to light up the northern side of it. There is also evening light on Slottet, but unfortunately Slottet is not very interesting – it’s just big and imposing and totally in the way of everything nice. Anyway… the light was very patchy so it wasn’t worth the trouble to get closer to Templet. The view is very good from the station, so I just zoomed in and that was it.

The fog that came and went. It was clear in less than a minute after this!

Glacier buttercup. They have only just now started to bloom!

The Sylälven river. I took the picture from the bridge, on my way to the tent.
