Bolagen

There’s this lake, Bolagen, north-east from Storvigeln. I’ve never figured out why it’s called like that, as the only meaning that I know for bolagen is the plural of bolag = company (as in corporation). But, a rose by any other name…

So I went there this morning to see what the lake is like and also to do some scouting for a trip to Storvigeln one of these days. Or years. There is an ”official” route which goes north from Bolagen, but that makes the trip longer by a good few km and those are just unnecessary kilometres when you consider that you have also take yourself up on a 1561m mountain. With this shortcut, the trip is about 20 km, starting from the car park at Svansjökläppen. The only thing standing between me and this shortcut is a creek, which is not very deep and not very long either, actually, so I walked by it all the way. I was only able to find one spot where it might be possible to get over without taking off hiking boots (which I wasn’t wearing today, I only needed my lightweight boots in this terrain). If that doesn’t work, then it’s necessary to wade on the slippery rocks, definitely not something that I feel comfortable with (surprise. not.) but which I will do, one way or another, because as I was drinking my coffee there on a hill above this creek and looking at Storvigeln, it felt so close I could almost touch it!

The morning was very calm, and I made it to Bolagen just in time to get a few reflection pictures before the wind picked up. Too bad about losing the calm water, but the wind did chase away the flying bugs and I’m grateful for that. It’s the second half of August, why can’t we already have some freezing temperatures at night that will kill those annoying little things…

As you may have understood from my recent posts, it hasn't rained much (or at all)! And it shows.

The dried mud provided a lot of photo opportunities, of the more abstract kind.
