Had a friend for a visit for a couple of days, nice with company! As always when I have visitors who are not familiar with Funäsfjällen, the first place I take them is Djupdalsvallen. The idea was to go up Stor-Mittåkläppen so the waffles would be well deserved, but the weather had other ideas – we came maybe halfway up when the wind whipped us with raindrops so bad it hurt. We took cover under a cliff overhang but after about 15 minutes we realised it was hopeless, and turned back and ate our half deserved waffles. Which were good anyway, as always!
So that was yesterday, not the ideal way to get introduced to the place but nothing to do about the weather. Lucky then that it was a completely difference situation this morning – sunshine! We drove to the Svansjökläppen parking which is well above the tree line, saving us the hard work of walking up. We were going to the Vättafjället peak which was an easy hike, with nice views towards Storvigeln. It was almost calm, even on the tundra, so the mosquitoes would never leave us alone, and it also meant that if a cloud drifted in front of the sun, it took forever to drift out again because the clouds were moving so slowly. So we ended up doing most of the hike without the sun, which was a pity because I missed some really nice photo opportunities along the way. There was just no point in stopping and waiting for the sun. Which came out just before we reached the car, timing is everything. 😉
