A month ago I was among the icebergs and snow on the largest island in the world, and now I’m on a sunny and sandy beach on the tiny island of Gotska Sandön, some 40 km north from Gotland off the east coast of Sweden. The whole island is a national park, and for a good reason – everything about this island is special! At least for someone like me who has no experience of islands, it feels like I’ve landed in a foreign place.
I didn’t come here just for fun. The reason I came here is a course in botany, it’s just what I need after three years of botanical downtime in Föne. But on this first day on the island, I had some time to explore the surroundings before the course begins tomorrow morning.
