(Warning for a lot of pictures!)
It was a cold night in the tent. The camping site is on the mainland side of Ramsvikslandet so the wind isn’t so bad there, but the temperature sank to near freezing and I didn’t sleep well. I got up at 5am for my morning hike, it felt really good to be walking instead. But now I was on the open side of Ramsvik so the cold wind was blowing right through me.. but walking was nice.
It’s still just a clear blue sky, so I wasn’t interested in sunrise as such. I just wanted to use the warm light on the red rocks and cliffs.
After breakfast (yes, breakfast after the walk!), it was already time to drive to Nordens Ark. There were three species in particular I wanted to see – the red panda, otter, and long-legged lone wolf. The red panda was easy – it was the second enclosure, and the pandas were in full view. High up in the trees. But still, very cute!
I missed out on the otters completely, I checked their enclosure four times and there was nothing. The same thing was happening with the long-legged wolves, until on my last visit at the enclosure, they finally came into view! It didn’t last very long, but it was all I needed. Wonderful creatures!
Overall, a very nice zoo. The animals have large enclosures and the landscape provides plenty of cliffs for them to jump and climb. Had it been overcast, it would have been much easier to photograph there but now in the sunshine I had to give up many times when the light was reflecting so badly from the chain link fence. Still, I won’t complain, it was great to be there! For my one and only visit, I think I got pretty lucky anyway.
Having already been on my feet since 5am, I had time for another evening walk. Last night I explored the north side which didn’t look so promising, this morning I did the middle which was a bit better but now I explored the south side of Ramsvik, and this was actually the best place. Same place tomorrow morning!
