Beware of the dog

My new neighbours have a dog outside that rather annoyingly barks every time I walk by. So I thought, maybe I could make the dog get used to me and went up to the enclosure. Initially it was all good, the dog was sniffing my hand just like dogs do. And then it started growling and barking even louder. There are a lot of dogs in outside enclosures around here, and I hate it that the dogs bark every single time I walk by. And now I have one of them as my closest neighbour. Not good.

But on a more pleasant note, I did a long walk and discovered some new things. Found an old shooting range that the local hunting club had probably outgrown, and relocated to a bigger and better (and definitely more accessible) place. Found a very old building by the river that I first thought was a granary, but then I saw the half rotten flagpole so either there’s a house ruin close by that I didn’t find, or then it was a real cabin. The windows were small and too high to look in.

And then I found this wonderful spruce forest with a moss floor. There is no frost in the forest at the moment so the moss was wonderfully green, it was a perfect subject for the panning technique. I only wanted to capture the colour but I think I got more than that!

I had taken an old overgrown road, and it’s a bit awkward in that it goes through somebody’s back yard at the other end. I have taken this road once before, by bike, back then I had no option but to pedal through the yard and hope that nobody noticed, but now I was wiser and walked around the houses to reach the proper road. When I got to the crossroads, I saw a sign pointing to the road I had just came from. “Private road”, it said. “Beware of the dog”, as well. So… I guess I won’t be doing this same route any time soon again.

In the evening I drove to Kölströmmen to shoot the aurora and meteor shower. A good idea, but alas, I got neither aurora nor meteors. And without moonlight, it was hard to make the foreground work. But at least I got to use the 7D MkII for night photo, and yes, there’s more noise than the 6D had, which is hardly a surprise to anyone!
