Made a trip to Stockholm and brought home a bag full of goodies! This is officially the biggest overhaul of my photographic gear, ever. Even when I got my first SLR I only got two lenses for it, now I’ve changed almost everything. The thing is, I was never completely happy with the Canon 6D and all the lens problems it gave me. I didn’t really even want a full frame camera, but since I needed something to replace the old 40D two years ago, I went with the 6D because that was the only new thing that Canon released. What I had been expecting was 7D MkII – and now I have it!
Just look at the list, I’ve accumulated way too much gear:
- Canon 6D
- Samyang 14/2.8
- Tokina 16-28/2.8
- Canon 17-40/4
- Sigma 50/2.8
- Canon 24-105/4
- Canon 300/4
- Tamron TC x1.4
All of this is swapped to:
- Canon 7D MkII
- Tokina 11-16/2.8 (yes I’m happy to be reunited with this little gem of a lens!)
- Canon 15-85/3.5-5.6
- Sigma 70-200/2.8
- Canon 100/2.8
I kept the Mega-Tamron (of course!) and Sigma 150/2.8, but if I get along with the Canon 100/2.8 IS next summer, then I will probably sell the Sigma macro as well. Apart from the two macro lenses, my gear is perfectly streamlined now with a lens for every job and a massive focal length coverage of 11-600mm (18-960mm effective). I feel really good about this! Of course time will tell what kind of damage the high-ISO performance of the 6D did, I might be a bit shocked to see high-ISO pictures from the 7D2. But then I just have to remind myself to compare the IQ with the old 40D, because it was that camera I set out to replace in the first place. The 6D was just a detour!
The weather will be crappy tomorrow but I won’t let it stop me, I need to start using my new gear. This is going to be so exciting!
