I woke up well before time, just can’t sleep when there’s a trip coming up. I was in my car exactly as planned and drove to Arlanda to catch the flight to Reykjavik – I can hardly believe it’s finally happening!
Nice flight, got some clouds over Norway so I didn’t get to see the fjords from the air but then over Iceland the clouds broke up to give me my first glimpses of the land. And what an amazing land… seeing the fissures in the Earth’s crust made me realise that I’m travelling to a land which is slowly being torn apart by tectonic movement and it’s even more exciting knowing that there’s a live volcano spewing out lava (thankfully, no eruption that would have grounded all flights)!

I met the group at Keflavik and then it was a long drive to Hali in south-east Iceland; we got there at around midnight and didn’t even stop for photos on the way. But thanks to that breaking cloud cover, I got my first pictures!

With no time to go through the pictures while in Iceland, I obviously have to backdate all my posts from the trip. I have almost 25 GB of pictures to go through so this will take some time. I will also try to keep the text to the minimum I can without omitting anything essential, because I could really write long essays of each day, there was so much going on!
