My long awaited holiday is here! I’ve really been looking forward to a week in the mountains because this year we actually have some colours, unlike the massive disappointment that was 2011. The only threat I can I see is the wind because the weather forecast says that it’s going to be rather windy all week. So I’d better catch the colours before they blow off!
When I arrived at the cabin, I just turned on the heaters and then took off to Fiskhålsgraven. There’s a risk that I will soon know the ravine all too well to bother to hike up the big hill but at least today, I was glad I got there. It seems like the ravine is at its absolute best when the yellow birches are lining up the cliffs, maybe it’s the warm colours that contrast the sharp and steep cliffs or maybe it’s just that everything looks better with autumn colours.
I climbed down in the ravine, climbed up the ravine and walked around it. It was mostly cloudy but for a brief moment the sun almost came out which brought out a wonderful glow in the birches, and I sincerely hope that I get a few more glimpses of the sun during the week. It looks like I will have more overcast and rainy days than sunny ones and there’s even a risk (or chance) of snow later in the week. But unless the weather forecast is completely wrong, then tomorrow should be really nice and I have a long hike planned in the Ösjödalen valley which I’ve wanted to do for a long time now. The hike feels borderline too long (about 20 km) but I don’t have to take on much altitude and I have the whole day on me, so it should be fine. We’ll find out tomorrow!
(”Ruska” is Finnish and means the autumn colours. In Swedish it can also refer to rough weather in the autumn.)
